6 Australian and New Zealand scholarships for Indonesian students – 2023

What’s up, scholarship hunters?

In today’s article, we’ll talk about Australian and New Zealand scholarships that are available to Indonesian students in 2023!

Australia and New Zealand have an internationally recognized educational system. Multiple universities in Australia and New Zealand are ranked in the world’s top 100 universities year after year in Times Higher Education and QS Ranking. So, you can be sure that in these two countries, you will get the best education possible!

International students in Australia and New Zealand also enjoy a high standard of living! That’s right, Australia and New Zealand are very safe places to live, with great cities and plenty of public transportation, infrastructure, healthcare, and government services. Of course, there’s also a great deal of fun to have too! Whether you’re into the great outdoors or city slicker, there’s always something for you!

Last but certainly not least, most courses in Australia and New Zealand offer internship or work experience opportunities for international students! Possessing Australian or New Zealand qualifications will make you very appealing to employers in Australia, your home country, and around the world!

With all these reasons, it’s easy to see why Australia and New Zealand are popular choices for Indonesian students and other students from around the world!

So, what scholarship options are available for you? Continue reading this article to find out!

1. LPDP Scholarships

When Indonesians think about university scholarships, the first thing that comes to mind is LPDP! This government funded scholarship lets you study for a graduate or postgraduate degree in Indonesia or abroad, including in Australia and New Zealand.

However, keep in mind that for certain universities, LPDP only covers specific courses. There are two reasons behind this policy: 1. Certain universities are well known for specific fields of study, and 2. Indonesia has a particular skill shortage in certain areas.

Not only does LPDP cover your tuition fees, it also covers your living expenses, not only yours but also your family members (this just includes your wife/husband and children, don’t bring your entire extended family abroad!). You and your family will also be provided with health insurance!

Of course, you will be obligated to return to Indonesia upon finishing your study. As can be understood from LPDP’s mission: “Prepare Indonesia’s future leaders and professionals through education funding” – you are expected to apply the knowledge and skills you’ve learned for the betterment of Indonesia.

So, are you ready to develop the nation?

This year, the first LPDP intake is from January to June of 2023, and the second intake is open from June to November 2023. Don’t miss it!

What about the English proficiency requirement?

It varies! Different universities ask for different English proficiency scores. Even the same university can have different requirements for different study programs. However, it generally falls between 6.5 – 7.0 IELTS band score. You can take other English proficiency tests as well but IELTS is a good benchmark for our discussion.

What makes it tricky is that some universities may ask for 7.0 overall score with no less than 7.0 band scores for each skill. It means that even if you get 7.5 overall score but your writing score is 6.0, you’re still ineligible to study in that university!

Some of you might not be familiar with IELTS! But don’t worry, in this article, we explain all about IELTS in detail! So, be sure to give it a read!

What’s the difference between IELTS and TOEFL? You can read more about it here.

The Australia Award Scholarship covers your tuition and you will also be given a stipend to cover your living expenses. If you don’t bring any dependents, you will get one round trip ticket per year to meet your family back home.
