Chinese New Year 2026 Fire Horse Celebration at IELC

On 13 February 2026, IELC Solo and IELC Semarang brought students and teachers together for a special celebration from 15.00 to 19.00. The theme this year was the Fire Horse — symbolizing energy, courage, and forward movement.

The event gathered all students and teachers in one shared space, shifting the atmosphere from structured classroom routines into something more dynamic and communal.

Curious what learning looks like beyond the classroom? Enjoy the article and experience the excitement of Chinese New Year at IELC yourself, where celebration, community, and language come together.

Festive Costumes

The celebration felt even more alive with everyone in festive costumes. Students and teachers came dressed in Fire Horse–inspired outfits — bold reds, touches of gold, and fun horse-themed accessories that instantly set the mood.

Some went for simple and neat. Others showed up in full creative spirit. The mix of styles made the event colorful, lively, and full of personality.

It definitely didn’t feel like a regular school day and that was the whole point.

Chase the Horse Tail

Inspired by the traditional betengan game, this activity challenged teams to capture the opponent’s “horse tail” while protecting their own base. It demanded speed, strategy, and constant coordination.

Students quickly realized that random running would not win the game. They had to plan, assign roles, and communicate clearly. The field was filled with laughter, quick decisions, and competitive spirit, but also real teamwork.

Pin the Tail on the Horse

In this game, one player was blindfolded while teammates gave verbal instructions to help place the tail in the correct position.

The results were often hilarious. But behind the fun, there was a serious takeaway: clarity matters. When instructions were vague, the result was off target. When communication was precise, the mission succeeded. It became a simple but powerful reminder of how language works in real life.

Fire Horse Puzzle Challenge

Teams raced against time to complete a Fire Horse themed puzzle. Some groups immediately focused on building the frame first. Others divided tasks by color or shape.

Different strategies led to different speeds but the common factor was collaboration. The challenge encouraged patience, problem-solving, and shared responsibility.

Piñata Finale

Each participant was given two chances to hit the piñata filled with candies. The suspense built with every swing, and when it finally broke, cheers filled the room.

It was a simple activity, but it ended the celebration on a high note; joyful, collective, and memorable.

Purpose of the Celebration

This event was designed with intention, not just for entertainment.

1. Strengthening Community
When teachers and students participate together, barriers lower. Relationships become more personal and supportive. That sense of belonging directly influences engagement in class.

2. Practicing Real Communication
Language is not only about grammar and vocabulary exercises. It is about giving instructions, negotiating strategies, encouraging teammates, and reacting quickly. These games required students to use English naturally.

3. Building Confidence
Students who may feel shy in formal academic settings often become more expressive during interactive activities. Confidence developed in relaxed situations often transfers back into classroom performance.

4. Encouraging Collaboration
Every activity required teamwork. No one could win alone. This mirrors real-world environments where communication and cooperation are essential skills.

Why Celebrations Like This Matter

Learning is not purely cognitive; it is also emotional and social. Educational research consistently shows that positive emotional experiences improve motivation, retention, and participation.

Celebrations like this create:

  • Stronger peer connections
  • Higher engagement in learning
  • Reduced anxiety, especially in language use
  • A healthier learning culture

Language acquisition thrives in environments where students feel safe, connected, and motivated. Structured lessons build knowledge. Shared experiences build confidence.

At IELC, both matter.
